Browser Storage Policy

We value your privacy and want to be clear about how LactSafe uses browser‑based storage. This policy explains what information we keep in your browser, why we keep it, and how you can control it. By using LactSafe, you agree to the practices described below.

1. What We Store

We store two pieces of information in your browser's LocalStorage:

  • userStatus - Records whether you've selected "Pregnant," "Breastfeeding," or "Both" inside the app.
  • userOptedIn - Records whether you've seen and responded to our terms of service and medical disclaimer. This includes whether you've opted in (accepted) or declined.

2. Why We Store It

User Status:

  • To remember your chosen profile so you don't have to re‑select it each visit.
  • To instantly tailor medicine safety summaries to the correct stage (pregnancy or lactation).
  • To improve overall user experience without asking for any personal identifiers.

Opt-In Status:

  • To track whether you've reviewed and acknowledged our Terms of Use and Medical & Legal Disclaimer.
  • To remember your consent choice so we don't repeatedly ask for your consent.
  • To restrict access to certain features if you've declined to accept our terms (while still allowing access to our policy and disclaimer pages).

3. Storage Type & Duration

LocalStorage is a form of client‑side storage that remains on your device until you clear it. The data is not automatically sent to our servers and is not included with network requests. We do not use tracking cookies, analytics cookies, or third‑party cookies.

4. Your Control

  • You can reset your opt-in status by clearing site data through your browser.
  • Clear site data via your browser's privacy/settings panel. Look for "Site Data," "Cookies and Other Data," or "LocalStorage."

5. Analytics

We use PostHog, a product analytics service, to understand how LactSafe is used in aggregate. This helps us improve the app and prioritize features. Analytics are configured with in‑memory persistence, meaning no tracking cookies are set and no data persists between browser sessions (except as noted in Section 6 below).

We collect anonymous usage data such as:

  • Pages viewed and features used (e.g. searches, category browsing)
  • General interaction patterns (e.g. time on page, scroll depth)

We do not collect:

  • Your name, email address, or any personal identifiers
  • Your IP address (analytics are configured without IP collection)
  • Any data that could identify you as an individual

6. Provider Referral Links

If you arrive at LactSafe through a healthcare provider's referral link, we store a referral identifier in your browser's LocalStorage. This allows us to understand, in aggregate, how patients referred by a specific provider use the app.

What this means:

  • Your searches and browsing within LactSafe may be associated with the referral link you used.
  • This data is used only in aggregate. Your provider cannot see your individual searches or what medications you look up.
  • The referral identifier contains no personal information about you. It identifies the provider's link, not you.
  • You can remove this identifier at any time by clearing site data in your browser's privacy settings.

7. Data Security

The stored values contain no personally identifying information. The data never leaves your device unless you manually export or share it. The opt-in data only records whether you've accepted our terms and disclaimer, not any personal details. Anonymous analytics data is transmitted securely to our analytics provider and is never sold or shared with third parties.

8. Policy Changes

We may update this Browser Storage Policy as we add features or storage needs. Any changes will be posted here with a revised "Last updated" date.
